Hot weather and I don't mix

I can't stand the hot weather we have been having. It's about 84F (29C) degrees, which might nit seem bad to some, but it's also humid. Too hot for me. I'm just laying around a lot in front of a fan trying to stay cool. At least it gets me drinking more water than I usually drink. My hubby has an a/c on down in his office - I'd go crash in there, but don't think I'd find a comfortable spot to lay down. I should fill up the pool we got our daughter for Christmas. :-)

Happy New Year! Can't believe it's 2012 already, and I haven't posted in a month.

My folks are visiting from the US. They have been here since early December, and will go back home near the end of January. It's so wonderful having them here.

Can't think of much to talk about so will go for now.....

Little Red Box luxe samples review - October 2011

Ok, this is something I am really excited about. Little Red Box is an Australian company that you can subscribe to and receive a box of 4-5 luxe samples every month, which you can try out before you decide if you want to purchase the full sized product or not. This is similar to Birch Box in the US, Glossybox in the UK, and I know there are others around. Canada has one but I can't remember the name, and I think Germany might have one. I'm sure other countries as well.

In the boxes will be samples of things like make-up, hair care, fragrances etc... You won't know what you are getting until you get your box of goodies. Kind of makes you feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Hehe!

Anyway, Little Red Box just launched it's first box, and I am excited to have gotten a box. This is the very first time doing something like this. Let me show you what I got. :-)

My Daughter and cat were interested in what I got too! ;-) The samples came wrapped up in red tissue paper with a ribbon tied around.

On top of everything you get a card welcoming you to Little Red Box. And the you get a list of what samples are in this months box. Hmm, let's have a look and see what I got. :-)

Klorane Dry Shampoo - Can't recall if I have heard of this company or not, certainly have never used anything like this before. But I do like this product. You spray this stuff on your hair, and it makes your hair look clean and revives your hair restoring body, bounce and shine. I sprayed it on the top of my head and it did make my hair look cleaner.

Jurlique Rose Body Cream - I love Jurlique products. This body cream is very nice. I love the rose scent - it's a delicate scent and not overpowering. I say that because I don't always like rose scents. But this is nice. Feels nice on my skin too.

Inika Light Reflecting Highlighting Cream - I have never heard of this company before, so I was excited to try this out. I should have taken the tube out of the box. The product is kind of a light peachy gold color that adds highlights to your face. Use it on your cheeks, brow and eyelids. I tried it on my eyelids and below my eyes, and it does brighten up the area. I've been feeling like my under eye area has been darker lately, so this product is very nice.

Next are 2 products by UltraCeuticals - Ultra C Firming Serum and Ultra Moisturiser Cream. I haven't tried these yet since I only just got the box today, but I am looking forward to trying them out. They are supposed to help to hydrate (which is important to me), smooth and visably firm the skin, as well as strengthen and nourish.

And then, they put in a little Lindt Chocolate. It was very yummy! :-)

So all up, I am very pleased with this box, and happy to be a subscriber. I'm not sure how much it is per month, as when I signed up, they had a special deal going on and I don't know if it's still going on or not. I do know that other companies here in Australia sell their boxes at $14.95 a month.

Anyway, I'm already looking forward to my box of goodies for November. Seems so far away. :-) Thank you everyone at Little Red Box!

Oh no! What is it!?!?!

We get some pretty BIG spiders here in Tasmania, and I have a real fear of them. Anything bigger than a quarter I really don't like. But we get some palm sized ones and bigger.

A few weeks ago, I was in my older son's bedroom putting laundry away. I was just about to shut the curtain when I saw this:

You can see the leg on the left from behind the curtain there. I freaked out and went to get my husband to take care of it. Well, he doesn't like spiders either so wans't too thrilled with the idea of getting rid of this thing.

He pulled back the curtain carefully, bug spray in hand, and got ready to spray. But then he said to me "Wifey, that isn't a spider." And I said it was, and he said "No, look and see what it is." So I did, and here is what was there:

A cable tie!!!!! I couldn't believe it, and I started laughing so hard. I seriously had been so scared, and then to find out it thankfully wasn't a spider.

The cable tie is holding the cord onto a screw in the window (so our cat doesn't knock it down), which goes to a tv antenna for my son's tv. A HUGE relief to me!

I made another wallet and this one turned out better than the last one. Still cute though, I think. :-) It has a velcro closure, and 2 pockets.

In a previous post, I mentioned how I had been looking for a pattern to make a passport cover. I did find one for a passport sleeve that I quite liked. Here's how it turned out.

So much fun and I plan to make more.

Handmade wallet

The other day I was searching online for a passport cover, as I was wanting one for mine so it wouldn't get all easily bent up in my handbag. I found one, as well as a pattern for a cute little wallet. Here's how my wallet turned out:

This was kind of a test wallet because I wanted to see if I could actually make one. I hope if I can get good enough making them, I might try selling them eventually. I just think they are so cute for such a basic type wallet.

My faith - What I believe

I am a Salvationist in the Salvation Army, and this is what I believe....

I believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by the inspiration of God and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

I believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.

I believe that there are three persons in the Godhead - the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.

I believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.

Had a great weekend

We had a great weekend. My sweet hubby, Bob, took us out for lunch at a nice restaurant, down on the waterfront near the city. It's a very nice spot right next to a marina. I like being about to look at the sailboats that are there. The food at the restaurant is great. Our oldest son ordered what is called the Boardwalk Burger, and it's huge. Here's a photo of it...

We all laughed so hard at how huge it was. Surrounding tables thought it was funny too. But our son amazingly ate the whole thing, although he had to break it down to be able to eat it.

Yesterday Bob bought me a new digital camera, as my old one quit working. It's a cute little thing, and it's pink. It's a Nikon Coolpix S2500.

And we also bought a clothes dryer. We haven't had one for years. I usually hang clothes out on the line, but with all the winter weather we have been having, it's been hard to dry clothes. Once the weather is better I will go back to hanging clothes out.

My homekeeping planner

Today I thought I would share with you my homekeeping planner, which I bought from a lovely site called GraceWorks. Actually, that link is to the blog, but you can get to their product site from there.

This planner is from their Beautiful Life Mangement System, which is specifically geared towards the mother and homemaker. There are a few different planners/themes to choose from. This one is mine.

A nice burgundy canvas cover, but they have other styles to choose from.

Pockets on the left side and pen holder, and the left side is where you can put down your name and address (which I covered up). They have a variety of beautiful tabbed pages.

Turn the page, and you have a quick list to put down inportant numbers. On the right side is where you can write down your life purpose statement. I haven't filled that in yet, as I am not sure what to put just yet. This page is on heavy cardstock.

Some of these pages are hard to see, so I must apologize for that. On the right side is the daily pages where you write down your schedule, along with some daily prompts, meal planning area and more. If you visit the GraceWorks site you can see better photos of their pages.

On the right side is a menu prompter, favorite recipes you use a lot, or whatever you'd want to put there.

On the left is a yearly at-a-glance calendar. The right is the calendar section, printed on heavy cardstock. I won't show the calendar because I couldn't get a good photo to show up.

This is a lovely plastic divider page that has a verse on it: "And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisify thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring whose waters fail not... Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth..." Isaiah 58:11,14

This page is the Morning Latte page (again hard to see, sorry). here you can record scripture you've read, a thought or prayer from the passage, a Godly aspiration for the day, as well as a special prayer focus.

There are a few photos I forgot to take, one of the phone number section, but that wans't worth showing. But I forgot to take a photo of the Keeping in Mind page, which are used as weekly planner pages - errands to be run, clothing needs, upcoming birthdays and anniversaries, etc.

Anyway, I just love this planner. Like I mentioned earlier in this post, they have a few other types of planners. Be sure to check them out. I must try and get better photos of my planner sometime.

In need of some decent weather!

Since last Thursday, the weather has been just awful. We've had strong wind weather warnings, and boy, they weren't kidding. It's making it really hard to do laundry, because I haven't been able to hang clothes outside. In the meantime, I have been using clothesracks inside to dry the clothes, which makes it take a long time for the clothes to dry.

So this morning, the weather was finally decent, and I got started on the laundry. Well, what do you know, it decides to rain once the laundry was done. Grrrrrrr! All my clothesracks are full. Time to see if anything I washed yesterday is dry, so I can make room for all the wet stuff.

Coats please!

It's Winter time here in Australia, and boy is it ever cold. Doesn't help that it's been super windy this past week, wind blowing off the mountain too. It's about 43F right now.

But what is amazing to me is how many children don't wear winter coats to school. I just can't understand why they don't wear them. I make sure my kids wear coats, because I know they get cold, and I don't want them freezing. Kind of makes me sad to see kids not keeping warm, especially little tiny kids.

I know I get really cold outside, so I can't see how all these children wouldn't be cold. Sure, they run around and stuff, but still.....

Hello everyone! I'm Andrea. For those of you who don't know me, I'm 41, an American living in Australia and have been here almost 15 1/2 years. I met my hubby through the internet and we have 3 children - 2 boys ages 13 and 14, and 1 daughter who is 5.

I love primitives - extreme prim, cats, dolls, ornies, etc, you name it! I have been making prims since early 2004.

On this blog I'll be talking about my family, and whatever else I can think of. I do hope you will enjoy visiting!
